PRACTICAL LAB 4
GUINEA PIG, OTHER RODENTS,
OTHER EXOTIC COMPANION MAMMALS
- DIAGNOSTIC and DENTAL PROCEDURES -
This 4-hour wet lab is aimed to apply the diagnostic and dental procedures implemented during the first two labs on selected rodent species . Using cadavers, participants will simulate:
- oral endoscopy
- extraoral radiography
- interpretation of the CT scan
- intraoral dental procedures
- the challenges of extraction of incisor teeth in guinea pigs, chinchillas and rats
- extraction of teeth in ferrets
- gingivotomy, gingivectomy and gingival suture in ferrets
Additional bony specimens and cadavers will be used to display the dental anatomy of select exotic companion mammal species.
Visual tutorials (photo series, videos) displaying the dental procedures have been included within the on demand part of this course, but will also be reviewed and available for participants during the lab.
